Crestone Hood

AVAILABILITY: Ships within 1-2 business days

The internal draw cord on the Crestone Hood is comfortable against your face and allows for adjustable warmth. The removable underarm straps keep it in place on your head no matter what your sleeping position. The versatile design is great for sleeping, and can be worn as a hood with your jacket or vest.  For typical use between 0° - 40°F.

  • Draw Cord Closure Around the Face - Internal draw cord adjusts the face opening. We have designed this closure to be comfortable against your face, while keeping the plastic cord lock away from it.

Removable Underarm Straps - Adjustable underarm straps keep the hood in place on your head, ensuring that the hood stays where you want it no matter how much you toss and turn. The underarm straps can be left at home if you do not need them, saving .25 ounces.

Very cozy and functional

Took this hood on a camping trip where it got down to 30-degree temps, and it worked like a dream. I was able to both wear it around camp in the morning, and slept in it at night with no problem. This is a critical piece of gear if you at all expect the temperatures are going to be around or below freezing, especially as part of your sleep system.

My first down hood

Crazy warm- used it at -3*F over a thin possum down beanie. Word to the wise; do not cinch the drawstring smaller than your face or it’s a soggy frozen mess where your breath freezes. You want your face exposed just like Monte Python and the holy grail. If it’s so cold you need even more insulation wear a neoprene ski mask at night.

Ideal hood

I bought this Crestone hood for my wife, as she feels the cold and currently in S Korea it is forecast-3.2F / -16C for the next two days. She wears her hood with a synthetic black jacket. She likes how you can cinch down the front to minimise the opening in front of the face. If her neck gets too cold she gets a stiff neck. This hood has kept her head and neck warm when venturing out. Very pleased with the quality of the product and speed and efficiency of the delivery from Katabatic Gear. Purchased 2 sleeping bags, 2 hoods - Crestone and Windom and a Tin cup jacket - all very well made and warm products. What next down booties / gloves?

ready for the cold

I have a big hear (7-5/8 fitted) and a full beard, it is a little snug but once it's in place fits well. Plan on using this thing this summer above 10,000 feet
