This is my second Katabatic quilt and I love it. Best sleeping experience and great temperature control.
I've used a Sawatch for four years and absolutely love that bag. So plush and warm'it still makes me smile when I crawl inside. This year, for a summer bag on the CT, I decided to go with the Flex 30 with 2 ounces of overfill. Great choice, plus the Flex series is a bit wider which I enjoy. Lots of choices out there for good quality quilts but I still feel Katabatic is the best. It's an investment, for sure, but one that continuously pays off.
Amazing quality. Super warm when closed up. However, I am a hot sleeper, so I love how this quilt opens up fully. Also very light, even with 1oz overfill.
I have owned the Flex 30 for 3 years and it has been everywhere with me. I am impressed with the quality of this quilt and overall versatility. One notable backpacking trip was spent in a borrowed single person tent with poor ventilation on a 28 degree night. When I awoke my quilt was absolutely covered in frost. I did what I could to remove as much of the frost as I could before getting under way but after breakfast and with the sun coming up temperatures were reaching high thirties. I had a long stretch and had to stuff the quilt while still covered in melting frost. After completing my 18 mile leg I quickly removed my quilt to dry it out only to find, to my surprise, it was perfectly dry! So all that to say I am very impressed and do not regret my purchase one bit. Thank you Katabatic for an amazing product.
I have owned the Elite Series Sawatch 15 degree quilt for 2 years now and getting tucked away is my favorite thing about arriving at camp after a long day of miles. I have experience the quality of Katabatic quilts (once you do it is the only way to go) and I needed a spring/summer/fall quilt. The Flex 30 is the answer for me. The versatility is fantastic with the combination of zipper, footbox snap, draft collared footbox drawstring, and many different variations on the sleeping pad attachment system. As a cold sleeper, I can even take this comfortably BELOW the rated temp with the addition of a couple extra layers. for temps of 25-40, I zip the Flex 30 and draw the footbox closed + use the attachment system and draw it in snugly. For 40-50, I zip the quilt, snap the button on the footbox and use the attachment system. For 50-60, I zip the quilt, maybe snap the footbox or leave open, and use the first set of attachments for the sleeping pad, leaving the top loose like a blanket. For anything above 60, I unzip the quilt and lay it flat like a blanket. For nights with a wide temp swing, if I wake up and need to adjust it is taken care of within a couple seconds. I have 2 Katabatic quilts and can be comfortable in any temp ranging from 10-75 degrees. That lets me backpack comfortably year-round in the midwest where I live. Priceless!! Quality is perfection, silky amazing feel, super lightweight, packs down amazingly well, and comes with a bunch of cool stuff! Super heavy duty cotton storage sack, sil nylon stuff sack, a sticker, 2 sets of sleeping pad straps, and straps for cinching the quilt in tight without attaching to a sleeping pad. Love it!
