Wren Bivy

Size

The Wren Bivy provides a waterproof floor with a water resistant upper to protect your quilt from spray and mist. Featuring both a solid and mesh opening, the Wren allows for both maximum weather resistance and maximum ventilation depending on conditions.  Designed to work well with both pyramid shelters and tarps.

  • Dual Function Opening- Zip either the mesh window or Pertex Quantum solid panel depending on conditions.

Long #3 YKK Zippers- Long inverted U zippers running from waist level to above head, allows easy entry and exit.

Waterproof ROBIC® Nylon Silicone/UTS Coated Floor- ROBIC® high tenacity yarn and UTS coating provide extra tear strength, abrasion resistance, and it is less slick than a traditional silicone coating.

Bathtub Style Floor- Reduced seams in the floor for increased weather resistance.

Pertex Quantum Air Upper- Highly breathable, water resistant fabric with DWR treatment. Increased air permeability reduces condensation while remaining highly wind resistant.

Internal Sleeping Pad Attachment- Internal sleeping pad attachment keeps your sleeping pad in place. The Cord Clip locations on our quilts line up with the pad attachments in our bivys. Cinch your pad in place in your bivy, then simply clip your quilt onto the same cords.

Full Bug Protection- Full bug protection keeps the creepy crawlies at bay, making the bivy ideal for use under a tarp or floorless shelter.

Elastic Hang Loops- Tie loops at the head and foot to keep the bivy fabric off your face and quilt.

Generous Dimensions- Allows room inside for gear storage. Both regular and wide versions fit 25" wide sleeping pads.

Stake Loops at the Corners- Ribbon loops at the corners facilitate drying or allow staking.

Stuff Sack Included- Included stuff sack for storage. Adds 0.25 ounces.

Wren bivy checked all the boxes

I tried out my wren bivy last week for an overnight in 30°F. No tarp or tent. It was perfect. It kept my pad and quilts contained so no drafts, and added some warmth. During the night I felt around for condensation and the slightest bit of clamminess I found from me breathing went away when I open the zip a couple inches. Easy to get in and out of. Literally everything I was looking for. Thank you!

Wren bivy upgrade

I recently upgraded to the Katabatic Gear Wren Bivy after my Piñon was unfortunately stolen from my campsite in the Superstition Mountains last month. While that was a frustrating way to be forced into an upgrade, the Wren has absolutely proven itself and then some.
I took the Wren into the San Juans in winter, where conditions were cold, snowy, and exactly what you want a bivy to be tested in. The waterproof bathtub floor did its job flawlessly—snow melt and ground moisture were complete non-issues. The water-resistant upper fabric shed falling snow without any wetting-through, and most impressively, the breathability was outstanding.
Condensation is always my biggest concern with a bivy, especially on winter trips, and the Wren nailed it. Even after long, cold nights, there was no internal moisture buildup and my sleeping bag stayed completely dry. That balance of weather protection and airflow is hard to get right, and Katabatic absolutely did.
The build quality feels bombproof without being heavy or overbuilt, and it packs down easily for winter alpine objectives. This bivy inspires confidence—something you really appreciate when you’re committed deep in the mountains.
Losing my Piñon was a bummer, but after using the Wren in real winter conditions, I can say this was a meaningful upgrade. If you’re looking for a reliable, breathable, winter-capable bivy, the Wren delivers exactly what it promises.

Used this bivy during a light mistimg rain with not tarp. Instay perfectly dry inside. It was a warm evening and I could feel the cool breeze passing through it. Amazing breathability!
