Pretty great all around: lightweight, weather resistant, affordable, relatively breathable. I do wish it were just a little bit taller at the head, though.
Very impressive piece of gear. It’s great in my floorless shelter or under a tarp. It’s light enough that I bring it sometimes even when I won’t need it. This is my first experience with just letting the air out of my pad rolling the whole unit up and shoving it in my bag and it’s awesome for that.
I’m 6ft 190lbs and the regular/regular is perfect. I’m not a claustrophobic person tho.
I bought the piñon a week before I left for the CT this year to use with my flat tarp. I'm glad I did! I used to have the older Bristlecone version and definitely love the improvements on this bivy. As a tall hiker, the Long Wide gave me plenty of room with a 20 degree quilt and 3" LW air mat. Looking forward to using it this winter in a mid.
After receiving it, I immediately used it for a two-night excursion in Japan.
I camped along the river but there was no condensation at all.
The experience of sleeping under the beautiful autumn starry sky without worrying about insects is wonderful.
The interior feels so wide that you can't imagine it from the outside.
Combined with DCF's tapered tarp, you have the lightest shelter system!
Expertly designed and flawlessly executed. Grab the Piñon and a flat tarp and you're set for just about anything....and all for less than a pound. This is my favorite set-up for just about anywhere on the Colorado Plateau, Desert SW, and similar settings. Needed this fast and Katabatic came through for me. Great Colorado company.
