Well made and has never let me down, my third quilt from Katabatic Gear.
How did I ever sleep well prior to owning this quilt??? I really didn't. Im such a cold sleeper and have tried many different brands of sleeping bags and even with a high R value pad had little success. I had never tried a quilt and was nervous with hearing stories of drafty cold nights. This quilt had great reviews so decided to try it. Its very soft and light but most importantly it keeps me warm. Very warm! It has really exceeded my expectations and I have recommended it to many others in the market for a new quilt.
Expertly designed and flawlessly executed. Grab the Piñon and a flat tarp and you're set for just about anything....and all for less than a pound. This is my favorite set-up for just about anywhere on the Colorado Plateau, Desert SW, and similar settings. Needed this fast and Katabatic came through for me. Great Colorado company.
This is my second Katabatic quilt. I was cold on the PCT and contacted Katabatic about having this warmer quilt shipped out to me. Trey was super helpful and rush shipped the quilt to me on trail just before the sierra. As expected my Alsek is comfy, light, and warm!
this has to be the best quilt I own !!!
very glad I got them I have two now
awesome and lightweight
I ordered the Flex 30 6'6" wide with 2 oz overfill. I am 6'2" 210lb. This quilt is simply amazing! The quality, comfort is awesome, fits perfectly with plenty of room to move around. Have used it down to high 30's with only shorts shirt and wool socks and slept like a baby! The pad attachment is easy to use and most of the time I use the elastic straps and keep it closed up on me to eliminate drafts. If in the 50s I leave the foot box snapped but open. I use it almost every night as my primary quilt on my bed. Open it up, snuggle in. Only thing I would like done or may do myself is add a snap above the zipper so that when your realy active turning over at night that you don't unzip the zipper which has happened to me a couple of times when I sprawl out. Other than that I am most definitely pleased with my service, purchase and experience with my first Katabatic Flex quilt! I already know I will be buying another one colder rated from them before winter! Probably the Alsek 22 or 15, not sure , maybe both! Don't hesitate, if you come this far, get it, you won't regret it!
This quilt is beautifully designed to provide lightweight, lofty warmth in a package that allows me a lot control and flexibility. I cannot sleep in a traditional, restrictive mummy without feeling anxious so I am thankful to have found this quilt.
Quality product with lots of versatility. Beats the competitors in terms of materials and design. I love this Katabatic
My only preference would be for a slightly sturdier zipper, if only for piece of mind.
On the AT currently. No doubt in my mind that my Flex 22 is the perfect piece for my trip. Had a near hypothermic episode in the Smokies and my Flex saved me. Best part of my day. Durable. Amazing loft. Warm. Never whines. Thank you!
This hood is nice. The 20-50 rating is good for me since I am a little hot-headed. The 0-20 hood would have been too warm. I slept outside in 30 degree temperatures and it was plenty toasty. It packs down small enough to fit in the stuff sack with my Flex 15 quilt. The elastic cords are functional and comfortable. The first night I used it without the cords and woke up in a panic with the hood turned around backward because I'm a wild sleeper. This does not happen if you loop the cords on and I had no more issues, only great nights of sleep. Highly recommended piece of gear.
Amazingly Warm and Soft Material and quality workmanship. So far it hasn’t disappointed. I haven’t tested in colder weather than the rated max, but really looking forward to see this quilt perform.
First use was early May in northern WI on an island on an inland lake. Temps were mid 20s at night, was a little worried about staying warm but just a few minutes after crawling into the quilt I was unbelievably toasty. Stayed very warm all night, not too warm though just at a perfect temperature. I couldn’t believe how well the quilt stayed in place as I would rotate from side sleeping to back, and to other side. Never had to readjust. If I ever wear this one out, I will 100% be buying another.
I decided to write a review after coming back from hiking when I realized that I slept all night untangled and draft free. When you wake up in the morning and realize you slept like you do at home, it says a lot about the quality of this quilt. The pad attachment seems like a pain at first but it breaks in and is in fact easier to use than the one I have on my EE quilt. The comfort rating is spot on. I won't say conservative. I will just say that all other company are REALLY optimistic with their rating. I am 5'9'' and the 6 foot/regular fits fine even when I am lying on my stomach. I have more room in this quilt than I do in my 59 inches shoulder girth mummy bag. Get one, leave you some time to familiarise with the pad strap attachment system and you will not regret.
Warm, cozy, feels like nesting your head in a fluffy cloud. Made my chilly nights toothless. Do your head a favor with this delightful hood!
The movement toward ultralight backpacking is growing, and we’re glad you’re joining us. Maybe you’re planning a thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail and need to cover maximum miles. Perhaps you want to continue backpacking into your golden years without your joints and muscles lecturing you along the way. Whatever your reason for reducing pack weight, we know you’ll be happy with the change.
So, why choose Katabatic Gear over all the other lightweight backpacking gear companies out there? Because we were founded on the premise that you should not have to sacrifice function, comfort or design to use ultralight backpacking gear. In fact, we believe your lightweight gear should function better than its traditional counterpart.
Years ago, as a backpacker switching to ultralight gear, our founder was dissatisfied with the lightweight gear that was available to him on the market. It seemed like most lightweight backpacking and hiking gear addressed weight reduction by stripping away features. This often resulted in gear that was light, but didn’t function well. He had ideas which he thought could solve many of the issues that seemed inherent in ultralight backpacking gear. Through innovative, thoughtful design and the use of cutting edge materials, Katabatic has aimed to create backpacking and hiking gear that functions better than traditional gear, at significantly lighter weights. We believe that features such as our patented quilt attachment system, down filled collars, and differential cut (to name a few) make our backpacking quilts the best you can find. The 30°F hovers just over a pound, and even our 15°F weighs well under two. Features and weights like these, combined with our incredibly detailed and precise manufacturing standards, results in gear that is going to exceed your expectations and last for years to come.
Whether you’re considering one of our award winning flagship models like the Palisade mummy-style backpacking quilt, or our highly versatile Flex series of blanket style sleeping bags, we are confident that you’ll be well rested for your next day’s adventure. And we’re honored you’re considering Katabatic Gear.
